What Is the Stock Market? A Beginner's Guide for Indian Students

हिन्दी में पढ़ें

What a share is

A share is a small ownership part of a company. When a company needs money to grow, it can sell shares to the public. People who buy them become part-owners of that company.

Where shares are traded

In India, shares are bought and sold on exchanges such as the NSE and the BSE. The exchange is the marketplace. It matches people who want to buy with people who want to sell, and prices move as that demand and supply changes.

Why prices move

Prices change because of company results, news, interest rates, the wider economy and the mood of buyers and sellers. No one can predict every move, and short-term moves can look random.

What a beginner should do first

Learn the basic words first: share, index, order, volume and portfolio. Practise reading charts before using real money. Understand that you can lose part or all of the money you put in.

Key points

Trading involves risk. This article is for education and information only. It is not investment advice, and no course or method promises a return or removes the risk of loss.
