Trading Psychology: Handling Fear, Greed and Overconfidence
Emotions are normal
Everyone feels fear, greed and excitement when money is at stake. The goal is not to remove feelings. It is to stop them from making your decisions.
Fear
Fear can make you exit too early, skip a plan you made, or avoid trading after a loss. Smaller risk per trade often makes fear easier to manage.
Greed and overconfidence
After a few wins it is easy to feel you cannot be wrong, take a bigger size and break your rules. A series of wins does not prove skill, and markets can change.
Habits that help
Write down a plan before the trade. Keep a simple journal of what you did and why. Take breaks after losses. Review mistakes without blaming yourself harshly.
Key points
- Emotions cannot be removed, only managed.
- Plan first, then follow the plan.
